China is a beautiful country with profound culture which is very different than American culture. For example, In China, we usually use chopsticks, not forks nor knives. Chineses' most imoortant meal is lunch, not dinner. We have many different dishes and eat those together with family or friends, not as sepatate as Americans. Also, People will go back to home where ever you are in Chinese New Year to group together with your family. In addition, Chinese don't really have etiquette like kissing hand when we met each other.

As you can see, Chinese culture is very different than American culture. Not only those, you will find out more fun facts if you visit my homeland. China welcome you!

Personal achievements are one of those with the highest value in Americans mind. Americans have very strong senses of success. Succeis the pursuit of most Americans, it is their attractive future and the incentives for moving forward. They believe that one's personal value is equivalent to his achievements in his career. Some high achievers in their career such as entrepreneurs, scientists, artists and all kinds of super starts became modern heroes. The proceand result of how they strived have become the frame of reference of social culture value and the real life text book for parents to educate their children.

American society has great movements within itself. These movements are shown in two aspects: movements amongst locations and movements inside the society. The United States are relatively more open and have more freedom. Developed transport and the tradition of adventure and sporty makes a lot of American migrate from countryside to cities, from downtown to uptown; and from north to the southern sunny land, from one city to another. Unlike European countries, the social classes in America is not so stable. Further more, with the advocation of public education, movements upwards along the social ladder have become possible. Although there are frequent conflicts between the cultures they have brought with them from the "old country" and those found in America, most immigrants learn to adjust to and love their adopted land.

Americans have also learned much from the customs and ideas of the immigrants and are often influenced by them in subtle and interesting ways. Immigrants bring their native cultural, political, and social patterns and attitudes, varied academic and religious backgrounds, as well as their ethnic arts, sports, holidays, festivals, and foods. They have greatly enriched American life.

For immigrants from all parts of the would, the United States has been a "melting pot" in which the foreigners have sometimes remained culturally and linguistically what they were in their native lands even as they move toward becoming citizens of the United States, a country whose people share a common cultural outlook and set of values. The melting pot does not melt away all recollections of another way of life in another place----nor should it. On the contrary, immigrants should maintain the languages, skills, religions, customs and arts of their own heritage, even while they are working towards entering the mainstream of American culture.

Something I Admire about the Western Culture

Despite the cultural conflicts between the Orient and the Occident,there do exist some admirable ingredients in the Western culture.

First and foremost,the equality between parents and children.The parents are not always superior to their children,and the children do not always need to obey their parents order,that is,they are more like close friends.

Second,the independent personality.Western people have a strong sense of supporting themselves and being independent.They begin earning their pocket money early in their life,even as kids.

Last,Western people do not always assess a person according to his background.If only he can achieve success through personal struggle,he can win status.It's a talent-oriented society,not background-oriented.

All the above mentioned are what I admire in the western culture and what I think we Chinese should learn.
